Materials Needed:
- Water balloons
- Access to a kitchen or outdoor tap
- Small toy dinosaurs
- Scissors
- Table salt
- Spray bottle
Benefits:
This activity is ideal for toddlers and preschoolers, promoting the development of fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. It’s also a fun way to keep children cool and entertained during hot summer days!
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Begin by placing a small toy dinosaur inside each balloon. Fill the balloons with water using a kitchen or outdoor tap, then securely tie them at the top with a knot. Freeze the water-filled balloons until solid. Once frozen, carefully cut away the balloon to reveal the ice dinosaur eggs. Submerge these ice eggs in a shallow tray of warm water, and fill a spray bottle with water mixed with a sprinkle of table salt to speed up melting.
Invite your child to spray and melt the ice eggs, helping to free the dinosaurs inside. Feel free to swap out the dinosaurs for other small toys, such as safari animals or aquatic creatures, for added variety!
Enjoy!
